Abstract

The castle of Nyalab at Korolevo (Hung.: Királyháza) is one of the key sites of medieval and early modern Transcarpathia (Ukraine). According to the written sources the castle existed between the late 13th and the third quarter of 17th centuries. In 2014, during the third season of excavations we focused at the southern wall of the main castle’s building. The excavated area was limited by the walls of the room 2 (36.5 m2). The depth of the cultural layers at the studied spot has reached 4.5 m. The stratigraphy defined two main phases. A fallen tile stove have been discovered at the lower part of horizon І. Evaluation of the excavated finds in 2014 dates the room 2 from to the 16th –first half of the 17th centuries.
