Abstract

Sarmatian features were explored in the narrow trenches opened during the evaluation and preventive excavations in preparation for road construction works in Jászfényszaru, Hatvani-határ. The paper presents the unearthed graves, including a comprehensive description of the features and the associated ditched enclosures, as well as a detailed analysis of the find material—grave finds, human and animal skeletal remains, and geological samples—and the interpretation of the discerned characteristics in a wider archaeological context. The cemetery was associated with the Late Sarmatian Period; it was established in the 3rd century AD at the earliest, and it was certainly still in use during the 4th century AD.
