HUMAN GEOGRAPHY OF THE MANORS AND WINE HILLS OF TENGELIC
Abstract
The population ofTengelic started to decline in the second halfofthe 2Oth century because
ofout-migration and aging ofthe population especially in the outskirts (manors and wine
hills] ofthe viliágé. There are 11 outskirtsettlements in Tengelic (10 manors and a wine
hill], which is one ofthe largest numbers ofpopulated manors in Hungary among all the
settlements. The outskirts ofTengelic lost their originalfunctions and characteristics, bút
we can see a strong differentiation among them by population size and functions. The
common characteristics ofthem are the aging and exchange ofpopulation lack ofworking
places and Services, degradation ofthe buildings and the decline ofagriculturalfunction.
The dominant fiinction nowadays is the residental one in all manors and wine-hills of
Tengelic. The connection between the outskirts and the Central viliágé is weak because of
the large distance and the lack oftransport connections. In thefuture the underpopulation
and the increase ofsocial problems are probable.
