SHOPPING CENTRES IN THE BUDAPEST AGGLOMERATION
Abstract
In my study, I examíne the location of hypermarkets, department Stores and shopping
centres in the Budapest agglomeration. Although the conceptual classification of these
commercial and service units is different, I have assumed that their basic functions
(shopping, Services) are the same, so I have treated them as a group, shopping centres, in
the research.
In the years around the turn of the millennium, multinational companies built one
hypermarket, department store and shopping centre after another in the Budapest
agglomeration. Large department Stores with huge cárparks were built
Good accessibility was an importantfactor in their construction, and they were builtmainly
along motorways and major roads. This in turn made it possible to reach the shopping
centres quicklyfrom the Capital orfrom the outlying towns and cities.
