DEVELOPMENT OF BÉKÉSCSABA IN THE LAST YEARS
Abstract
Békéscsaba is located in the Great Plain in Hungary. The medieval Hungarian village of
Csaba was established in the 13th century. Nowadays Békéscsaba is the most important city
in the mid-Békés city collective and in Békés county and even the district. Unfortunately,
however, the city is performing quite poorly in national and regional terms. It cannot be
compared to the development of other better towns in the county. The rate of emigration
from the city and its surroundings is very high. The area around the city has excellent
agricultural potential. In the recent decades the city has significant transformations.
Amounts of development have been completed in the city thanks to the Eruropean Union
and the national developments. The developments include tourism, economic and
municipal, transport, infrastructure development. In the last 15-16 years, these
developments have put the city in a better position. The developments that have begun in
recent years represent a promising future. A CLLD community has also been formed in the
city in 2014, which also has great potential. The developments are not over yet, the road on
which the settlement started will continue in the coming years. The study includes the
developments considered by the city’s residents to be the most significant.
