THE DIFFERENTATION OF THE OUTER AREAS OF A SCATTERED SETTLEMENT IN NEARBY AREA OF A DYNAMICLY DEVELOPING CITY, ON THE EXAMPLE OF BALLÓSZÖG

Abstract

The purpose of thisstudy isto explore the process ofsocial transformation taking place on
the outer area of a scattered settlementina nearby area of a dynamiclydeveloping city and
to present its impact on the farmsteads. In our research, we examined how the population
of the outer areas of Ballószög has developed since its independence to the present day.
Furthermore, what changessociety has undergone in the meantime in each outer ares, and
how these changes have transformed the farmsteads of the settlement. In the course of the
research, we mainly analyzed the census data. After analyzing the statistical data, an
empirical survey was conducted. This included fieldwork as well as conducting semistructured interviews. It can be stated that due to the suburbanization process due to the
proximity of Kecskemét,the population ofthe outskirt of Ballószögis constantly increasing.
However, this is territorially differentiated. The economic function of farmsteads are
becoming increasingly declining, and instead the residential function is becoming
dominant.
