THE FOREIGN EXAMPLE OF THEMATIC TOURIST TOWN NETWORK AND THE POSSIBILITIES OF ITS HUNGARIAN ADAPTATION
Abstract
A particular area of settlement geography is the study of historic towns with a rich historic past and the values representing it. These towns embody a specific type of settlement. The urban tourism based on their appeal is a tourism supply of an ever-growing popularity of the 21st century; it is present to an increasing extent all over Europe. The historic towns offer different kinds of tourist attractions, and, in order to achieve their development aims, they emphasize these attractive features often by being organized into networks. A good example of such a cooperation is the network of small historic towns called Kleine Historische Städte (KHS) in Austria. The study presents aspects that make it possible to compare the members of the cultural tourist town network. Using the classifying method of geography along these parameters, we have categorized the settlements. Summarizing the results, we have articulated success factors which can facilitate the tourism success of the historic towns. Finally, the study also touches upon the study of a national circle of towns; it highlights towns suitable for the establishment of a similar town network in Hungary.
