ATTEMPT TO DEFINE THE DEMOGRAPHIC WEIGHT OF THE ROMA PEOPLE IN THE MICROREGIONS OF THE HISTORICAL VAS COUNTY

Abstract

The studies on the demographic and sociologic character of the Roma people are mostly focused on the northeastern part of Hungary or the Carpathian Basin. There are few researches from the western part of these regions which are only sparse inhabited by the Roma although the increase of their demographic weight is almost as fast process as in the other part of the Carpathian Basin. This paper is focusing on the microregions of Vas County and to the neighbouring Austrian and Slovenian areas. The aim of the study is to estimate accurately of the number of the Roma people in regional and local level as well. I used as many scientific data source as I could to achieve this goal. The main result of my research is a usable database which is suitable to use by examination of other areas. Besides of the measuring demographical character of Roma, I present in this paper some elements of the coexistence of ethnic communities (segregation, conflicts, etc.) as well.
