THE RURAL SIDE OF THE BALATON REGION THROUGH ITS HISTORICAL ASPECT
Abstract
The Balaton Resort Area was planned in 60 years ago, as the first regional plan for the most popular hungarian touristic region before and now. Despite its significance in tourism, people can experience more differences between the settlements trough the social, institutional factors or the transportation network, which lead to different social conflicts in the everydays. The region is situated in countryside, where the agriculture and tourism give the answer to the local economical and social problems as employment, land use, etc.
This study summarizes the rural characteristics of the analyzed resort area by the number and density of the population, ecudational institutes, medical, and infrastructural supply, and the transport opportunities and network in the time’ context. According to the results, the number and density of inhabitants, and the transport network are the main reasons of rurality; the lack of institutions and the distance of the towns only amplify the disadvantages. Despite the regional development program, we can find more rural areas between the agglomerating and suburban zones. Over sixty years, we can still find disparity both of the nord and south part, not only on the image but also in the social, demographical data and the recreational functions.
