Abstract

The focus of our study is the ethnic structures of some Austrian and Slovenian settlements. This villages had an important function: to protect the west borders of Hungary. After 1920 these Hungarian settlements appertain to Austria or Slovenia, so nowadays they are ethnically multi-coloured. Thanks to the empirical research we could prepare figures about the ethnic structures of this settlements with the help of a software called Quantum GIS. Besides that, we try to present the target areas of our search and their short historical geographical particularities.

The figures plane sign the different ethnic groups on the grounds of families. Our research is a part of a bigger work. In this respect it was irrelevant to sign the other nationalities (e.g.: Croatian), so the figures show only the Hungarian, Slovenian and Austrian families.
