Abstract

Basic settlement sociology issues of these days are the unfavourable social and economic processes going on in the small villages, including the continuous decline in the population of the settlements, the lack of potential human resources, and finally out-migration. Similar problems can be detected in the case of Husztót and Kovácsszénája as well. The solution is in the practical implementation of small-scale rural innovation adjusted to the endowments of the respective settlements. This issue is discussed by the paper in which, on the basis of a quantitative research, the diverse development paths of two tiny Baranya county villages with similar environmental conditions, Husztót and Kovácsszánja are demonstrated, and the reasons for the differences are explored.
