ETHNIC SEGREGATION AND DIVERSITY IN THE SETTLEMENTS OF HISTORICAL VAS COUNTY
Abstract
The research of the topics of ethnic segregation and heterogeneity helps us studying ethnic spatial structure of a selected area. With these methods we can measure the pattern of ethnic communities with exact numbers instead of common analysis of the statistical database. The research methods of calculation of the ethnic diversity index and the index of dissimilarity but there are further scientific approaches in my study (e.g. measurement of change of the number of segregated settlements of Roma people). We get acquainted with the reasons and factors of change of the degree of ethnic diversity and segregation in the study area (historical Vas County) in the 20th century. Furthermore the study is focused on the correspondence between ethnic pattern and local specialities (size and type of settlements, differences between periphery and core areas, migration between settlements etc.).
