Abstract

The role of outskirts became marginal in the majority of counties of the Hungarian Great Plain region in the last 60-70 years. We have detailed information about the change in number of population, and houses/flats in the outskirts following the data of Census in every 10 years. However, we have limited data sources about the forming living and economic functions, the level of basic infrastructure, or even the social structure of people living there. The Tanya Development Program in 2013 offered us an opportunity to make an overlook of a whole county, collecting data with the help of a standardised questionnaire. In this paper we try to pict the major characteristics of outskirts in Békés County and understand the data as a result of a longer term process.
