DEVELOPMENTAL SUPPORTS AND THE ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY OF SETTLEMENTS. DEVELOPMENTAL SOURCES AND CHANGING POSITIONS OF SETTLEMETS IN VAS COUNTY

Abstract

This paper focuses on the effects of EU co-financed subsidies on the wealth of settlements and their relative positions by taxable income in Vas county. It examines, whether the remarkabele amounts of support helped to realize several projects in various places in the last decade have resuled notable advancement for the succesful settlements, or significant shifs amongst them in general. It finds no clear correlation between the initial position of actors and the amounts won by them, and nor between the scale of subsidies and measurable progress in terms of income. It seems that general trends causing an evolutive development for the settlements system as a whole are much stronger in the short run, than development strategies and own efforts made by decision makers.
