ADNEXUMS TO THE DETERMINATION OF MISKOLC'S SUBURB REGION

Abstract

The socio-economic, infrastructural and environmental impacts of the suburbanization process are unexplored in suburbs of Miskolc. In-depth investigation and exploration did not happen about specifics of Miskolc’s suburbanization process or the horizontal extension of the exact demarcation. In our study, we have attempts to define the separation of Miskolc suburbia in connection with ten statistical data sets. In our study, 39 municipalities in the district of Miskolc and Alacska, Boldva, Szikszó and Sajoszentpeter settlements were included. The north-east and south of the city of Miskolc developed its suburbs, which is closely linked to the city's economy, the society and services. The first group of suburbia settlements in Miskolc (certain suburban municipalities) included seven municipalities, the second group (uncertain suburban municipalities) included seventeen settlements. The further development of suburban settlements largely depends on the development of Miskolc, in particular labor utilization, commuting and living area aspects. The third group of settlements (19 settlements) clearly stated that it does not belong to Miskolc’s suburbs. The Miskolc related duality of suburban settlements - in our opinion - will persist in the future, and the expected social and economic processes will only influence the degree of further differentiation, speed and pace.
