Abstract

The socio-economic, infrastructural and environmental impacts of the suburbanization process are unexplored in Miskolc. In-depth investigation and exploration did not happen about specifics of Miskolc’s suburbanization process. This paper, I have attempts to define the separation of Miskolc suburbanization process in relation to the results located within city limits outskirts of statistical data and field trips. My studies all related to the outskirts of Miskolc were included, which is closely linked to the city's economy, the society and services. The number of outskirts changed from time to time (eg. 1980: 79 pieces, 2011: 52 pieces etc.), as the number of people living there as well. In contrast to the steady decline in the number of Miskolc population, between 1990-2011, the number of people living in outskirts increased by more than 1,000 employees. Significant differences were observed between demographic, economic, and built-up/technical parameters of the tested outskirts (Map 1). Miskolc inner area of the north and south, both located in outskirts observed dynamic population growth, with different causes of segregation are sign (eg. Lyukóvölgy – Nagyszentbenedek). The most dynamic population growth in the Lyukó-periphery (Lyukó-völgy, Lyukóbánya, Erenyővölgy, Annabánya) reached in 2011, where he lived for more than three thousand people, it is also socially disadvantaged outskirts of Miskolc. The further development of suburban outskirts largely depends on the development of Miskolc, in particular labor utilization, commuting and living area aspects. The Miskolc related duality of suburban outskirts - in my opinion - will persist in the future, and the expected social and economic processes will only influence the degree of further differentiation, speed and pace.
