Abstract

Bükkszentlászló is a one-street sack settlement, located at 8.2 km distance from the center of Miskolc, 4 km from the edge of the town, there is no built-up connection with Miskolc, and it consist only the 2.5 km long Main Street. The village was annexed to Miskolc in 1982, it was the last one in the great socialist town expansion era. Bükkszentlászló features are preserved to the present day, which distinguishes this community from other parts of Miskolc. This study sought answers whether the social impacts of agglomerisation and suburbanisation resulted positive economic and infrastructural changes or the increasing previous weaknesses and threats resulted to belong to the  periphery of Miskolc city. The inhabitants of Bükkszentlászló have one of the lowest household incomes and savings rates, this is associated with a very low educational background. The lack or low level of living environment, infrastructure and services is suggesting that Bükkszentlászló did not found its’ location in the big city and it could not benefit from the new opportunities in the past decades. There is no adequate public transport links, the road conditions are poor, there is lack of public services and basic touristic infrastructure. The housing stock has low degree of comfort and utility supply, which will lead to low real estate prices, so the population starts to change its’ structure and the segregation process can begin.
