SPATIAL BALANCE OF BUDAPEST
Abstract
In the past 30 years, such a detailed analysis has not been done in city planning. Three essential factors were changes following the millennium; we became member of EU in 2004, and the budget was extended by new financial sources, Hungary takes part in Schengen free flow area 2008. January and a half year later the global economic and financial crisis was launched.
The data of last census of 2011 October was available this year. According that the population decreasing has turned in low a level increasing. The natural reproduction is not sufficient for future development. However, the international migration has juvenile the population structure. Budapest and its agglomeration attracted the 60-70 % of international flow. The ratio of foreigners is still on low level, has not reached the 2% of autochthon inhabitants. The composition of housing is shows the better living standards and the market. It is a new data, each seventh flat are vacant.
The targeted spatial units are in five categories suburban area, Danube, downtown, highlands and transition.
The past two decades two characteristics were typical:
- the expansion of the city in new area,
- the brown field re-habitation by a new function.
But a large area (32%) is available for future development as housing as economical basis. The total economical field is 13%. The composition of economical units and spatial extension you can read in paper. And one third of city area is not build in. We are dealing with the brown field perspectives, which are competitive reserves for housing and economic development. It is clear for the long-term process do not need any spatial extension beyond the city border.
The long-term strategically plan dealing with the economical, environmental, social challenges on different level. Specific goals are livability, sustainability and gender equality. Paper is sum up the future recommendation how to develop the local economy. What can be the attraction roll of City in this process? Enable facilitating roll, coordinator roll, technical assistance, motivator contribution, to extend the business clime for SMEs.
