Abstract

I spent the first three weeks of November in 2022 in Darlington (UK), from where I
made a few trips to Durham, Richmond, York and I also visited villages and sights
in the neighbourhood with vibrant historical vibes, such as: Yarm, Barnard Castle,
Bowes Museum, Beamish. The historical atmosphere and the natural beauty are
more likely to captivate travellers, especially if they are professional in the field of
tourism and/or heritage. If you are this kind of person, you will dive into the experience which will take you into on the unforgettable time travel. Even a lecturer starts
thinking about what the most effective way of transferring the knowledge would be.
Choosing these destinations had family-related reasons, but the selected programmes reflect the researcher’s taste. This study is a collection of best practices which
help you to understand in various ways how to turn a historic building into a tourist attraction, how to create a unique visitor experience and maintain the balance
between the two. The question is that, if people – nature – history – built environment could impress us as a whole, whether it is a subjective feeling, a collection of
coincidences or an obvious result of conscious planning and coordinated actions
