The aim of the study is to present the functional use of space in one of Debrecen’s
neighborhoods. The Józsa district, which was once an independent settlement, is
located northwest of the city center of Debrecen. The former large village, along
with several smaller settlements, eventually became part of the city, so Debrecen,
which has had a great influence on its development until now, still plays a significant role. Józsa has had a special path of settlement development, whose brief
historical presentation is part of this study. The current functional use of space in
Józsa was explored by a questionnaire survey conducted among residents. Survey participants could formulate opinion on the living environment, the natural
environment, the infrastructure of Józsa, as well as on the quality of the services
provided by the district. Traffic conditions, employment opportunities, the education and health care system, and the relationship between leisure and space
use were also examined. Residents could also formulate their expectations and
future ideas regarding the further development of Józsa. Through the opinions of
residents, we were able to get an idea of the present state of the district and the
directions of its future development possibilities
