Az okkutatás korlátai Hérodotosnál

A tanulmány Hérodotos történetírásának prófétai aspektusát vizsgálja, azt a sajátos helyzetet, amelyben a történetíró egyszerre keresi a múlt eseményeinek okait, és közben elismeri e kutatás határait. A szerző a jóslás és az okfeltárás közti feszültségre helyezi a hangsúlyt, különösen a perzsa háborúk narratívájában. A történetíró szerepe így átmeneti: nem mindentudó jós, de nem is pusztán rögzítő krónikás, hanem az isteni szándék és az emberi döntések határterületén mozgó közvetítő. A tanulmány rámutat, hogy a Hérodotosnál a történetírás nemcsak események láncolatának bemutatása, hanem értelmezői gyakorlat is.
