Absztrakt

A tanulmány két euripidési tragédia, az Ión és a Hippolytos elemzésén keresztül vizsgálja a vallási szélsőségek dramatikus reprezentációját. A két mű hősei ellentétes irányú, mégis szélsőséges viszonyt ápolnak az istenekkel: míg az egyik vakon hisz isteni származásában, a másik egy fanatikusan aszketikus kultuszt követ. A tanulmány amellett érvel, hogy a tragédia a vallási meggyőződések kritikai vizsgálatának színtere volt, és nem pusztán a polis hivatalos ideológiájának megnyilvánulása. A tragikus színpad így a vallásos tapasztalat belső ellentmondásainak és társadalmi hatásainak bemutatására is szolgált, árnyalva az istenek és emberek közti kapcsolat dinamikáját.
