In this article, I examine the assessment of the current Hungarian law on churches by international organizations. The law has been widely criticized because it introduces a multi-level recognition system, which in a sense discriminates between churches. Previously existing churches have lost their legal status as churches. At the same time, religious freedom is fully guaranteed in the country and is adequately organized for those in special circumstances. The article describes Hungarian regulations in light of the UN and the ECHR.
