Abstract

The efforts for the development of an effective organisation is one of the priorities of the
present strategic plan of the University Library Service, which also refers to the improvement
of professional cooperation among the public collections of the university, and the
rethinking of the institutional, and organisational framework to it. In 2017 the Senate of
ELTE passed a decision regarding the integrated organisation of the University Library
and the University Archives, since then the institution has been working under the name
ELTE University Library and Archives. It is a fairly great change in the life of the two
institutions that have been working independently for 450, and 60 years respectively. The
presentation describes the process of the organisational integration of the library and the
archives, and reveals the factors to be considered in the cooperation of the two collections.
We attempted to answer the question whether both institutions may take advantage
of the integration, and whether the University Library and Archives, as one institution,
may provide added value to satisfy the needs of users and society.
