New pillar and geodetic beacon on the Gellért Hill

Abstract

During the renovation of the Budapest Citadel, the pillar (and cylinder mark above) built in 1933 had to be demolished due to the construction of the staircase behind the Liberty Statue. This pillar had been an important reference point for Budapest's independent triangulation network. This article presents how we obtained the coordinates of the new pillar and the separate new cylinder mark. It was a requirement that the old pillar also be used for the calculation, so the measurement was carried out in two steps, but the micronetwork was adjusted in one go. At the end of the article, we present the point protection solution aimed at preserving the main base point and the representation of the Gellért Hill meridian passing through this point in the pavement.
