Abstract
This paper aims to provide insights into the Egyptian influence on ivory art in Late Bronze Age Syria. Numerous ivory artefacts from this period were found in Ugarit and Qatna. The decorations of these objects cover a large variety of themes. Two styles can be distinguished based on how they use foreign Egyptian elements; this article discusses the differences between them. Egyptian influence seems stronger in the ivory art of Ugarit, where the local tradition appears combined with foreign elements. In contrast, in Qatna, fewer Egyptianising objects were made, but these feature exclusively Egyptian motifs.
