Abstract

The scarcity of Late Bronze Age finds in the mountains surrounding Sopron is a widely held topos among archaeologists. The Sopron Museum initiated a scientific programme to investigate settlement patterns during this period, concentrating on upland and mountainous sites while also including lowland contexts. Initial results from Sopron-Burgstall indicate that occupation began earlier than previously assumed. The programme was subsequently extended to the adjacent hillfort of Sopron-Warischberg to improve our understanding of the history of the the microregion.
Metal detector surveys at Warischberg revealed an unusual bronze object. This article presents that find, examines its morphological characteristics and context, and situates it within a broader comparative framework to enhance understanding of the period.
