Guidelines for Authors
Submitting a Publication
The editorial board of Ciklus only accepts manuscripts of research articles and reviews that have not been published elsewhere and are not under review by other journals.
Please upload documents in MS Word format (.doc or .docx) to the journal’s review system.
Ciklus is a so-called double-blind peer-reviewed journal, so please do not include the authors’ names, any references that could identify the authors in the text, or any background information that could identify the authors in the manuscripts. How to anonymise a Word document
Please upload the title, subtitle, summary/abstract, and five keywords in Hungarian and English in a separate document. Abstracts should be between 500 and 1000 characters in length. In the same document, please provide the name(s) and ORCiD(s) of the author(s) and the institutional affiliation(s) you would like to appear in records of the publication. If any of the authors of the publication do not have an ORCiD, please complete the free registration before uploading the manuscript. You can register for an ORCiD here.
Structure and Formal Requirements of the Manuscript
- In the case of research articles, the length of manuscripts, including the bibliography, should be approximately 40,000 characters with spaces, but should not exceed 50,000 characters, while in the case of reviews, the optimal length is 10,000–15,000 characters. These length limits may be exceeded in justified cases, but the editors may request that manuscripts exceeding the upper limit be shortened.
- Manuscripts submitted in an inappropriate format may be returned by the editorial board on grounds of formal deficiencies.
- Please submit your text in Times New Roman 12pt font, 1,5 spacing, with first lines of paragraphs indented, except for headings, subheadings, and at the beginning of a new section.
- The different sections of the manuscript should be separated by subheadings. At the beginning of the manuscript, there should be a section in which the author outlines the topic or topics of the study and describes its structure. In the last section, summarize the conclusions of the study.
- Footnotes may be used where justified, but endnotes should be avoided. However, footnotes should also only be used where justified, if an idea is absolutely important but would interrupt the flow of the main text. A footnote should not exceed 500 characters. Footnotes should not contain references on their own.
- Tables and figures should be included in the main text with source references.
- Please italicise the titles of papers and monographs, as well as foreign language expressions, except for those commonly used, e.g., status quo, ad hoc.
- When referring to decades, please write the year in full, e.g., the 1970s. (Do not use “the '70s,” “the 70s,” or “the seventies.”)
- First-level subheadings (“chapter titles”) should be in bold, second-level subheadings should be in bold and italics. Third-level subheadings should only be used in absolutely justified cases, in which case they should be in italics. Subheadings should not be numbered. Do not use fourth-level subheadings.
- Italics should be used in the text for emphasis or highlighting; under no circumstances should the main text contain text in bold or with spaced characters.
- At the end of the manuscript, please list the references under the first-level subheading “References.”
References
Ciklus uses the APA (7th edition) citation system. Please also include the DOI for items that have one. The easiest way to check for its existence is in the CrossRef system. The DOI should be placed at the end of the bibliography entry. If a publication (e.g., a volume) does not have a DOI, please do not include the DOI of reviews of the volume or any other web link (e.g., JSTOR).
