Restoration works on the main altar, the two side altars, and the organ screen of the Church of the Virgin Mary the Helper in Bodajk

The restoration described in the paper involved the development and execution of a complex programme that took a total of six years. Two professional groups worked on the task.
The removal of the wooden furniture, the wood conservation tasks, the construction, and some of the recovering were carried out by Balázs Fabók and his group under a separate contract.
Our group was engaged in the conservation and aesthetic restoration of the coloured and gilded surfaces, the latter of which is the subject of this writing. The conflicting and almost mutually exclusive aims made this task particularly challenging: on the one hand,
we had to present the very first colouring of the furniture while on the other hand, we had to do that in a way that involved removing as little as possible from the historical layers covering it. We also preserved some of the colouring made without authorisation in the
twentieth century.
The clients, experts, and the public had a positive opinion on the results. Therefore, we believe it is worth introducing them to the professional community as well.
