Abstract
This study examines the professionalisation of pharmacy in the British and Habsburg Empires, focusing on similarities and differences. The central statement of the historical literature is that professionalisation followed different models in English-speaking regions and continental Europe. To accept or refuse this statement, the analysis focuses on both empires not just at macro level but explore the processes in their peripheral areas—Ireland and Hungary—which could provide an insight into the relationship between imperial centres and peripheries.
