Call for Papers: Historical Studies on Central Europe

08-06-2020

Eötvös Loránd University is the largest public university in Hungary. In 2020 Its Faculty of Humanities (https://www.btk.elte.hu/en) will launch a new biannual English-language scholarly journal focusing on the history of Central Europe. This has been a region of crossroads and meeting points, where diverse ethnic groups, confessions, traditions, and political entities have interacted in a very special way. Reflecting this singular historical context Historical Studies on Central Europe offers a new forum for publications both by scholars at the outset of their careers and by established academics. The open access journal will be available in both printed and online formats.

The double-blind peer-reviewed journal will publish innovative, original studies on the history of Central Europe, accepting contributions from different fields of historical scholarship in a broad, interdisciplinary spirit, including anthropology, ethnography, and archaeology. Apart from studies that specifically address the history of the region, the editorial board also welcome contributions that bear methodological relevance to the study of historical processes.

We invite the submission of abstracts for both individual articles and blocks of two to four papers on the topics indicated above. Abstracts should be no more than 250 words in length and should be accompanied by a short CV with a select list of the author’s five most important publications. Historical Studies on Central Europe will also publish review articles dealing critically with one or two recent scholarly publications.

The editors will ask the authors of selected abstracts to submit their final articles (6,000 ‒  10,000 words). The editors will arrange proofreading for contributors who are not native speakers of English.

Proposals should be submitted by email to: ceh@btk.elte.hu.
